The Marolles has its daily flea market on Place du Jeu de Balle, while Saint-Gilles and Ixelles pull a younger crowd to Art Nouveau streets and late bars. Families climb the Atomium in Laeken and visit nearby Mini-Europe. Comic fans follow the mural trail through the centre. Spring and early autumn are the easiest times to walk it.

Liège Airport sits at Bierset, west of Liège, which is an advantage: you don't cross the city to head for Brussels. The route joins the E40 (A3) and runs west across the flat Hesbaye farmland, passing Tienen and skirting Leuven. It is motorway almost the entire way, gently rolling, with none of the mountain driving you'd get heading south into the Ardennes. The journey is roughly 100 km and usually takes a little over an hour when traffic is clear. The slow part is the end: the Brussels ring (R0) and the run into the centre, where tunnels like the Léopold II and the inner boulevards can back up. Aim to avoid arriving between 7–9am and 4–6.30pm on weekdays.

Give your driver a precise drop-off point, because the medieval centre around the Grand-Place, Rue des Bouchers and the Îlot Sacré is largely pedestrianised and cars can only reach the edges. Hotels near Place Rouppe or Boulevard Anspach are usually as close as a vehicle gets. If you're heading to the EU institutions, name the specific building or the nearest metro (Schuman or Maelbeek), as the one-way streets there are confusing. For Zaventem airport connections, a road transfer avoids changing trains in central Brussels. Belgium's low-emission zone covers the whole capital, so a licensed transfer vehicle spares you registration worries. Keep some coins for the Marolles market if you visit early, and note that many chocolate shops and the Sablon antique stalls close on Mondays.
