What you'll find in Paphos city centre
Paphos splits into two parts. Upper Paphos (Ktima) holds the everyday town: the municipal market, Kings Avenue Mall and the residential streets where locals live year-round. Lower Paphos (Kato Paphos) runs down to the harbour, the medieval castle at the pier's end, and the Archaeological Park with its Roman mosaics. The Tombs of the Kings sit just north along the coast road. Families come for the calm harbour promenade and nearby Coral Bay beach; couples and history-focused travellers spend days in the Park and old town. Summer is busiest and hottest, while spring and autumn suit walkers heading toward the Akamas peninsula. Golfers usually stay east at Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley rather than in the centre itself.
The drive across southern Cyprus to Paphos
This is the longest airport run on the island, crossing the whole south coast. You leave Larnaca on the A3, join the A5 and then the A1 motorway past Limassol, before the A6 carries you the rest of the way west to Paphos. It is dual-carriageway motorway almost the entire distance, so the ride is smooth and fast with few turns. The scenery stays mostly inland and open, with the sea appearing on your left near Limassol and again on the approach to Paphos. Expect roughly an hour and three-quarters in normal traffic. The final stretch drops off the motorway into town, where streets narrow considerably as you head down toward Kato Paphos and the harbour area.
Practical tips for this Larnaca–Paphos route
Because this is a long crossing, confirm your exact drop-off before departure: Kato Paphos hotels near the harbour, the Tombs of the Kings road, and upper-town addresses in Ktima are all separated by steep hills and one-way streets. Give the harbour or the archaeological park as a landmark if your hotel is hard to find. Traffic around Limassol tightens on weekday mornings and evenings, adding time. There are service stations along the A1 if you need a stop on a run this length. If you land late, note that central Paphos parking is limited and old-town lanes are tight, so a door-to-door transfer saves circling. For onward trips to Coral Bay or Akamas, arrange them separately as they lie beyond the centre.
