Expect roughly 65 kilometres and about an hour, longer in peak-summer traffic when the coastal road backs up near the beach resorts. The terrain shifts from flat farmland near the airport to rolling hills with sea views as you approach Tropea. The final stretch narrows and winds as it climbs toward the clifftop centre, so the last few minutes are slower than the open road that precedes them.

Tropea's historic centre is a limited-traffic zone (ZTL) with narrow, partly cobbled lanes, so vehicles cannot drive to most accommodation doors. Ask your driver for the nearest legal drop-off point to your address and be ready to walk the last stretch with your luggage; wheeled cases handle the cobbles and steps poorly. If you are staying below the town near the beach, confirm the exact access road, as several properties sit down steep lanes off the SS522. In July and August, allow extra time both ways for coastal traffic and limited parking. For onward trips to Capo Vaticano beaches or the Pizzo waterfront, arrange the stop in advance rather than diverting on the day.
