Private transfer from Lamezia Terme International Airport to Scilla
Door-to-door transfer from Lamezia Terme International Airport to Scilla with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Scilla is known for
Scilla sits on the Costa Viola, at the tip of Calabria facing the Strait of Messina. The old fishing quarter of Chianalea runs right at the waterline, with houses built onto the rocks and narrow alleys that end at the sea. Above it stands the Castello Ruffo on its promontory, splitting the shore between Chianalea and Marina Grande, the main sandy beach where families settle in July and August. The town is famous for swordfish, still fished in the strait, and its seafood restaurants fill up in summer evenings. Day-trippers come for the swimming and the view across to Sicily, while hikers use it as a base for the Costa Viola trails toward Bagnara Calabra and Palmi. Off-season it stays quiet, mostly residents.
The drive down the A2 to Scilla
The route runs almost entirely on the A2 motorway (the former Salerno–Reggio Calabria), heading south from Lamezia Terme along the Tyrrhenian side. It is a fast, toll-free road through inland and mountainous terrain, with long viaducts and tunnels as it cuts across the Calabrian relief. You leave at the Scilla exit, after which a short descent brings you down toward the coast. The final approach into the town is winding and steep, dropping through tight bends to reach the seafront. Vehicles cannot drive into Chianalea itself — its lanes are pedestrian and barely wider than a person — so the transfer ends at the nearest accessible point above the old quarter or by Marina Grande. The whole journey is normally a little over an hour outside peak summer traffic.
Practical tips for this transfer
If your accommodation is in Chianalea, expect to walk the last stretch with your luggage down stepped alleys, so pack light and confirm the exact drop-off point with your host in advance — some B&Bs there arrange a porter or a cart. In July and August the descent into town and the Marina Grande area get congested, and parking near the beach is scarce, so allow extra time on arrival. For onward trips, Scilla's train station on the Tyrrhenian line connects to Reggio Calabria and Villa San Giovanni, where ferries cross to Messina. If you're combining the visit with day trips, ask the driver about stops at Bagnara Calabra or the Costa Viola viewpoints along the way. Evenings by the water are cooler and breezy, so bring a layer even in high summer.
