Praia a Mare sits on the northern Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria, in the province of Cosenza, close to the Basilicata border. Above the town, the Santuario della Madonna della Grotta is built into a natural cave. The route runs almost entirely on the A2 Mediterranean motorway heading north from the airport. After leaving Lamezia the road climbs inland, away from the coast, crossing mountainous terrain with tunnels and long viaducts as it skirts the edge of the Pollino massif. This inland stretch is the fastest part and covers most of the distance. You then leave the motorway and descend toward the sea, and the final approach into Praia a Mare narrows as the road drops to the coastal plain and joins the local streets near the shore. Expect roughly an hour and three-quarters in normal conditions. The scenery shifts from green mountain valleys to open sea only in the last stage of the trip.

Praia a Mare is at the far north of the region, so this is one of the longer transfers from Lamezia — plan for it if you have a same-day onward boat trip or dinner booking. In peak summer the SS18 coastal road and the seafront fill up in the late afternoon, so an early arrival avoids the slow crawl into town. Many holiday flats sit on narrow one-way streets behind the promenade; share a precise address or a landmark such as the Isola di Dino ferry point so the driver can drop you as close as possible.
