Private transfer from Lamezia Terme International Airport to Pizzo Calabro
Door-to-door transfer from Lamezia Terme International Airport to Pizzo Calabro with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Pizzo Calabro is known for
Pizzo Calabro sits on a rocky ledge above the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia, its old town tumbling down to the sea. The main draw for most visitors is Tartufo di Pizzo, the chocolate-and-hazelnut gelato ball served in the cafés around Piazza della Repubblica, where the Aragonese Castello Murat overlooks the square. Just below the town, the Chiesetta di Piedigrotta is a church carved into the sea cliff and filled with tufa statues. Beaches like Marinella and the small coves under the centre fill with Italian families in July and August. It's a food-and-strolling destination rather than a resort, popular with day-trippers combining it with Tropea and Vibo Valentia further down the coast.
The drive from Lamezia along the A2
The route is short and almost entirely on the motorway. From the airport you join the A2 (the former Salerno–Reggio Calabria autostrada) heading south, following the coastal plain of the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia. After roughly 20 kilometres you leave at the Pizzo exit and drop toward the coast. The final stretch into town is the part passengers notice: the road narrows and winds as it climbs onto the promontory, and the historic centre around Piazza della Repubblica is tight and partly pedestrianised. Total time is usually around 25 minutes with light traffic. Drivers heading to a beach property below town or to Marinella take a different lower approach rather than the old-town streets.
Practical tips for this transfer
Because the old town is largely closed to cars, tell your driver the exact street or the name of your B&B in advance; many properties are reachable only on foot from a drop-off point near Piazza della Repubblica, so pack light or expect a short walk with luggage. If you're staying at a beach hotel below the centre, confirm whether the entrance is on the lower coastal road rather than in the historic core. The transfer is quick enough that an early or late flight is no problem. For an easy first stop, ask the driver to pause at the Piedigrotta church, which is off the main road and awkward to reach without a car. Book a return pickup in advance, as taxis in Pizzo are scarce.
