The newer dual-carriageway sections around Myślenice and Lubień move quickly, but the road narrows to single lanes through towns such as Rabka-Zdrój and Nowy Targ, where traffic backs up on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings. The terrain shifts from farmland to forested foothills, and the final stretch past Poronin and Biały Dunajec winds gently as the Tatra ridge comes into view ahead. Plan on around two hours in normal conditions, but winter snow, roadworks and holiday weekends can push this well beyond. The last kilometres into Zakopane run through built-up streets rather than open road.

Many Zakopane guesthouses sit on steep, narrow side streets off Krupówki or up towards Kuźnice; give the exact address and a phone number, as some lanes are hard for a driver to reach and a short walk with luggage may be needed. If you are heading straight to the slopes, confirm whether your accommodation is in central Zakopane or in an outlying village like Kościelisko, Bukowina Tatrzańska or Białka Tatrzańska, since these add driving time. For Sunday returns to the airport, leave earlier than the map suggests to absorb Zakopianka congestion. Winter travellers should expect the driver to use winter tyres and allow extra time. Ski and snowboard bags, plus prams, should be flagged when booking so the right vehicle is sent.
