Kraków Airport sits at Balice, on the western edge of the city, which works in your favour: you avoid crossing Kraków entirely. Drivers usually take the A4 motorway west for a short stretch, then head south-west on the DK44 through Skawina and Zator, or use the DW933 corridor towards Oświęcim. The terrain is flat inland farmland and small towns, with no mountains or coast on this route. Total distance is roughly 45 km and the run typically takes about 50 minutes, though the single-carriageway sections through villages can slow you at peak times. The final approach into Oświęcim is ordinary urban road, and the Birkenau car park in Brzezinka is easier to reach by car than the tighter streets around Auschwitz I.

Book your museum entry ticket before arranging the transfer time, then work backwards: aim to reach the entrance 15 minutes before your slot, allowing a buffer for the single-carriageway stretches. A guided tour of both sites takes around 3.5 hours, so if you want the driver to wait and return you to the airport or to Kraków, agree that in advance rather than relying on taxis in Oświęcim, which are limited. Security screening at the entrance is airport-style, so keep large bags in the vehicle.
