It is a short run, usually around 20 minutes, and the landscape barely changes: flat, moss-covered lava with almost no trees and steam rising from the geothermal area near the end. The final approach passes the Svartsengi power plant before reaching the Blue Lagoon's own access road and car park, where the entrance is a walk from the drop-off. Roads here are exposed and can be windy, and blowing snow occurs in winter. Note that volcanic activity on the peninsula has at times closed roads around Grindavík at short notice, so the exact approach can vary depending on current conditions.

Because the lagoon is so close to the airport, this transfer works best planned around two clocks: your booked entry slot and your flight. On arrival, allow time to clear passport control and collect bags before your driver takes you the short distance out. On departure, remember you still need to return to the airport afterward, so leave a comfortable buffer before check-in closes. The lagoon offers luggage storage, which is the practical solution if you are visiting between flights rather than staying overnight. Bring or buy the mandatory swimwear, and be aware the mineral water is hard on hair, so use the conditioner provided generously beforehand.
