The route runs south on the S1 and A1, then joins the A4 motorway eastward toward Kraków — motorway for almost the whole way, so the journey is usually about 90 minutes. Note the A4 between Katowice and Kraków is tolled, and traffic can build near the Kraków exits at rush hour. The terrain is flat to gently rolling inland Silesia and Małopolska, with no mountains on this stretch. The final approach depends on your destination: reaching Old Town or Kazimierz means slower, narrow streets, several of them pedestrianised or with limited vehicle access, so the last few minutes are the slowest part of the trip.

Confirm your exact drop-off address, because much of the Old Town falls within a restricted traffic zone; drivers often stop at the nearest accessible point such as Plac Wszystkich Świętych or the edge of the Planty ring, and you may walk the last stretch to a hotel on the square. If you're staying in Kazimierz, give the street name rather than just "Kazimierz." Katowice Airport (code KTW) is smaller and less hectic than Kraków's own Balice airport, and this transfer avoids relying on the airport bus and a train connection with luggage.
