Private transfer from Innsbruck Airport to Mayrhofen (Schwendau)
Door-to-door transfer from Innsbruck Airport to Mayrhofen (Schwendau) with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Mayrhofen and Schwendau offer visitors
Mayrhofen sits at the head of the Zillertal, with Schwendau and Hippach spread along the valley floor just to the north. Winter is the busy season: skiers ride the Penken and Ahorn cable cars, and experienced skiers head for the Harakiri, one of Austria's steepest marked pistes. The Hintertux glacier further up the valley draws year-round skiers. In summer, hikers use the same lifts to reach the Ahornplateau and trails toward the Zillertal Alps. Mayrhofen's centre is compact, built around the Hauptstraße with hotels, ski shops and après-ski bars like the Ice Bar and Mo's. Schwendau is quieter and more residential, popular with families and groups renting apartments and chalets away from the town-centre noise.
The A12 and B169 drive into the Zillertal
The route leaves Innsbruck Airport and joins the A12 Inntal motorway heading east down the Inn valley, past Hall in Tirol, Schwaz and Jenbach. This first stretch is fast, flat motorway running along the valley floor. Near Wiesing you exit onto the B169, the single main road that runs the length of the Zillertal, passing Strass im Zillertal, Fügen, Kaltenbach and Zell am Ziller. This part is a two-lane valley road, slower and more scenic, following the Ziller river with mountains rising on both sides. Schwendau and Mayrhofen are at the end of the line where the valley narrows. The whole trip is around 68 km and usually takes just over an hour, though the B169 can slow noticeably on winter weekends when ski traffic fills the valley.
Practical tips for this transfer
On winter Saturdays the Zillertal sees heavy changeover traffic on the B169, so allow extra time for arrivals and, more importantly, for the return trip to catch a flight — leave earlier than the distance suggests. Many Schwendau and Hippach chalets sit on narrow side lanes off the valley road; have the exact address and any building name ready, as apartment blocks and Ferienwohnungen can be hard to distinguish. If you're heading to Hintertux rather than Mayrhofen itself, mention it when booking, as it adds roughly another 20 minutes up the valley beyond the town. For ski luggage and boot bags, confirm vehicle size in advance. The town centre has some pedestrianised and one-way sections, so your driver may drop you at the nearest vehicle access point rather than the door.
