The Vorderreihe street by the water is the main strip for cafés, fish stalls and the passenger ferry across the Trave.

The route runs almost entirely on motorway. From Hamburg Airport in Fuhlsbüttel you join the A7, then swing onto the A1 heading northeast toward Lübeck. This is flat north-German terrain — farmland, wind turbines and pine belts, nothing steep. You leave the A1 at Lübeck and follow the B75 and then the B76/coast road down the Trave toward the sea, the final stretch passing Ivendorf and the port areas before reaching central Travemünde. Expect roughly 90 kilometres and about 80 minutes without heavy traffic. The last few kilometres slow down as you enter the resort, with beach-district streets and one-way sections near the Vorderreihe and the beach hotels. Weekday afternoons around Lübeck can add time.

If you are catching a ferry, be clear whether you need the Skandinavienkai terminal (on the north bank, reached via the port road) or central Travemünde — they are on opposite sides of the Trave and the passenger ferry does not carry vehicles between them by road. Give your hotel's exact street: beach hotels sit along the promenade while others cluster on the Vorderreihe, and some resort complexes on Priwall are across the water. Summer weekends and event days like the Travemünder Woche sailing regatta in late July bring road closures and full parking, so allow extra time. For very early Hamburg flights, book the pickup with buffer — the A1 through Lübeck is the one predictable slow point. Confirm a mobile number so the driver can reach you near the beach.
