The 18-hole Chamonix golf course sits on the valley floor here, busy in summer. In winter La Flégère feeds the Brévent-Flégère ski area. The village itself is quieter and more residential than Chamonix, with chalets, small hotels and quick access to Argentière further up the valley. Hikers, skiers and golfers all use it as a calmer alternative to the town.

The airport sits west of Grenoble near Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs, so the route runs almost entirely on motorway. The usual corridor is the A48 and A41 north towards Annecy and Geneva, then the A40 Autoroute Blanche heading east through Sallanches and Le Fayet. At Le Fayet you leave the motorway and climb the valley road through Les Houches and Chamonix town before reaching Les Praz. Expect around two and a half hours. The final stretch after Sallanches is where the terrain changes sharply — the road narrows and climbs with Mont Blanc coming into view on clear days. Through Chamonix itself traffic can slow on winter weekends and at peak summer times.

Give your driver the specific chalet or hotel address in Les Praz, as the village spreads along several small lanes off the main valley road and many properties are set back near the golf course or the Flégère station. In winter, carry ski gear details ahead so a suitable vehicle is sent; the climb above Le Fayet can see snow and chains. Note the Mont Blanc Tunnel is not on this route — you stay on the French side throughout, so no border or tunnel toll applies. If you are flying into Geneva instead, that airport is much closer; Grenoble suits travellers already committed to the Isère side or finding better flights there. Ask about a supermarket stop in Sallanches or Chamonix before settling in.
