Les Deux Alpes sits at around 1,650m in the Oisans, strung along a single main road, Avenue de la Muzelle, with most hotels, bars and the Jandri Express and Diable lifts opening straight off it. It is one of the few resorts with summer skiing, on the glacier up to the Dôme de la Lauze near 3,600m. Winter brings a young crowd for the wide pistes and a well-known après-ski and late-night scene; summer draws downhill mountain bikers to the bike park and hikers heading for the Lac de la Muzelle. Below the resort lies the old village of Vénosc, reached by cable car, with craft workshops, while Mont-de-Lans marks the northern end. Neighbouring La Grave and Alpe d'Huez are short drives away.

From Grenoble-Alpes-Isère Airport near Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs, the route runs on fast roads and motorway around Grenoble, then follows the Romanche valley eastward on the RD1091 towards Bourg-d'Oisans. This first two-thirds is straightforward, tracking the river past cliffs and hydroelectric works. At Bourg-d'Oisans the climb begins: the RD213 twists up a series of tight hairpins from the valley floor to the resort, gaining altitude quickly over the final stretch. Expect roughly two to two and a quarter hours in normal conditions. The last part is where passengers feel the mountain—sharp switchbacks, drops to one side, and slower going behind other vehicles. In winter the valley can be busy with resort-bound traffic on Saturdays, the main changeover day.

Tell your driver which end of the resort you need, as Les Deux Alpes stretches over two kilometres and walking from one side to the other with luggage in ski boots is tiring; the Venosc and Alpe-de-Venosc lift areas are at opposite ends. Many buildings are car-free or have limited access, so ask about the nearest drop-off point to your accommodation. In winter, book with enough buffer before check-in, as the RD213 climb slows in snow and the resort caps parking. If you plan summer glacier skiing, note the lifts run mornings only and close by early afternoon. Bourg-d'Oisans, at the foot of the climb, is the last place for a full supermarket shop before prices rise in the resort.
