Skiers and snowboarders come in winter for the high-altitude, snow-sure terrain; families favour Arc 1950 because everything is reachable on foot and cars stay in the underground garages. In summer, hikers and mountain bikers use the same lifts above Bourg-Saint-Maurice, which sits at the foot of the mountain in the Tarentaise valley.

Grenoble-Alpes-Isère Airport sits west of Grenoble near Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs, so the route runs mostly on motorway: across to the A43 and A430 corridor through Chambéry and Albertville, then into the Tarentaise valley via Moûtiers and Aime. This flat, fast section covers most of the 200-odd kilometres. The character changes at Bourg-Saint-Maurice, where the road leaves the valley floor and climbs a series of tight hairpins toward Arc 1950 and Arc 2000 — the final stretch is slow and winding, with gained altitude you can feel in your ears. Expect roughly three hours in good conditions. In peak winter the climb can be snow-covered and chain-controlled, so the final section often takes longer than the distance suggests.

Because Arc 1950 is car-free, vehicles stop at the covered drop-off and luggage goes the last stretch to the residence on foot or by the internal lift system — tell your driver your exact residence name, as the village has several entrances around the central square. For Arc 2000 the access road continues higher, so confirm whether your accommodation is in the lower or upper cluster. If you land late and the climb is closed by weather, Bourg-Saint-Maurice is the natural fallback, with its funicular to Arc 1600. Carry a warm layer accessible in your hand luggage: you may leave a mild valley and step out into deep cold and snow at 1,950–2,000 metres. For summer hiking trips, confirm that the lift and road access to your resort is open before travelling, as both run seasonally.
