Private transfer from Grenoble-Alpes-Isère Airport to Briancon Serre Chevalier
Door-to-door transfer from Grenoble-Alpes-Isère Airport to Briancon Serre Chevalier with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
Briançon and the four Serre Chevalier villages
Serre Chevalier is not a single resort but a chain of villages along the Guisane valley: Le Monêtier-les-Bains (1500m), Villeneuve-la-Salle, Chantemerle, and the city of Briançon itself. The ski area links all of them with one lift pass, so where you stay changes your transfer drop-off more than your skiing. Winter brings skiers and snowboarders; Le Monêtier also has the Les Grands Bains thermal spa. In summer, hikers and road cyclists arrive for the Galibier and Izoard climbs. Briançon is the highest city in France, with Vauban's fortifications and the walled Cité Vauban old town, a steep grid of narrow streets listed by UNESCO. Families tend toward Chantemerle for lift access; quieter stays cluster in Le Monêtier.
The drive over the Col du Lautaret
The route runs east across the Isère plain to Grenoble, then follows the N85/N91 up the Romanche valley through Vizille and Bourg-d'Oisans. From there the road climbs steadily to the Col du Lautaret at 2058m — a high, open pass that stays open in winter, unlike the neighbouring Galibier. Past the summit you drop into the Guisane valley and pass each Serre Chevalier village in turn before reaching Briançon. Expect around two and three-quarter hours. The last hour is genuine mountain driving: long switchbacks, tunnels and galleries above Bourg-d'Oisans, and slower going behind trucks and buses. It is scenic but winding, so passengers prone to motion sickness should sit forward and keep water handy.
Practical tips for this transfer
On winter Saturdays the Romanche valley and the approach to Bourg-d'Oisans jam with changeover traffic for Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes, which share this corridor; a mid-week or early-morning arrival moves far faster. Tell your driver your exact village and residence — Le Monêtier is 20 minutes beyond Chantemerle, and that gap matters for timing. Snow chains or winter tyres are standard on this road from November to spring. In Briançon's Cité Vauban, vehicles cannot reach many lodgings inside the walls, so expect a short walk from the nearest gate with luggage. If you're flying out, build in a buffer: the Lautaret can briefly close for avalanche control after heavy snowfall, and there is no quick alternative.
