Families gather around the old harbour and the shops and bars along Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen. From the marina, ferries run to Isla de Lobos and across to Playa Blanca on Lanzarote, so many arrivals are here to island-hop. The airport (El Matorral) sits just south of Puerto del Rosario, so the transfer first skirts the capital before joining the FV-1 heading north. The road hugs the east coast for most of the way, passing open, low scrubland with the sea intermittently to your right. It is a straightforward, mostly fast run with few bends until you approach Corralejo, where the route swings inland briefly and the dunes come into view. The journey typically takes around 35 to 40 minutes with clear traffic. Coming into town the road becomes a network of resort entrances and one-way streets, and the old-harbour area near the ferry terminal is compact, so the final few minutes are slower as the driver navigates to specific hotels or the marina.

If your plan is to catch a ferry to Lobos or Lanzarote, tell your driver so you are dropped at the marina end rather than the far southern resorts along Grandes Playas, which are a few kilometres apart. Many Corralejo hotels sit inside gated resort complexes with more than one entrance, so have the exact hotel name and, ideally, the reception street ready. There is little natural shade on the FV-1, so keep water and sun protection accessible for the ride. Wind is a constant here, strongest in summer afternoons, which matters if you are carrying board bags or loose items when you step out. For onward trips to El Cotillo or Lajares, arrange the extra leg in advance, as taxis from the old town can be scarce at peak times.
