Manta Rota is a low-key beach village in the eastern Algarve, part of the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António. Its main draw is a wide, dune-backed sandy beach that runs east towards Altura and Monte Gordo and west towards Praia Verde, at the edge of the Ria Formosa lagoon system. Families and older Portuguese and northern-European visitors dominate in summer; it stays quiet in the shoulder seasons. Just west sits Cacela Velha, a tiny walled hamlet with an 18th-century fort, a whitewashed church and oyster beds in the lagoon below. Golfers use it as a base for Monte Rei and Quinta do Vale nearby. The village itself is small: a beach car park, a handful of cafés and restaurants, and residential streets rather than resort towers.

The route runs almost entirely east along the A22 (Via do Infante), the toll motorway that follows the Algarve inland from Faro. After leaving the airport you join the A22 and stay on it past Olhão, Tavira and the Vila Nova de Cacela area, which is the usual exit for Manta Rota. From there a short stretch of the N125 and local roads drops you south towards the coast and into the village. It is a flat, straightforward inland drive with farmland and low hills either side rather than coast views, and it typically takes around 50 minutes. The final few kilometres are on smaller two-lane roads through Vila Nova de Cacela before reaching the beachfront and residential lanes of Manta Rota.

The A22 is an electronic-toll road with no booths, which matters if you ever self-drive, but with a private transfer the tolls are handled for you. Manta Rota has no train station of its own; the nearest line stop is at Vila Nova de Cacela/Cabanas, so a door-to-door transfer avoids an awkward final leg. Give your driver the exact villa or apartment name, as the residential streets behind the beach are a grid with similar names and little signage. If you are heading to Cacela Velha specifically, mention it: parking there is very limited and the last approach is narrow. For golf stays at Monte Rei, confirm the resort gate. Restaurants and shops in the village thin out considerably from October to Easter, so plan an arrival-day meal accordingly.
