Luz de Tavira sits on the N125 between Olhão and Tavira, in the quieter eastern Algarve. Most visitors are people renting a house or villa in the surrounding countryside, drawn by the calm and the closeness to the Ria Formosa lagoon. From here it is a short hop to Santa Luzia, the octopus-fishing village, and to Barril beach with its anchor cemetery, reached via the small train from Pedras d'el Rei. Golfers use nearby Benamor near Conceição de Tavira. It suits families and couples wanting a base away from crowds, busiest in July and August.

The route runs east, away from Faro city. Drivers usually leave the airport road, join the A22 (Via do Infante) and follow it toward the Olhão and Tavira junctions before dropping down onto the N125 into Luz de Tavira. It is a straightforward drive of roughly 40 kilometres, mostly on motorway, with the terrain flat to gently rolling and inland rather than coastal — you see farmland, orange groves and pine rather than sea for most of the way. The final stretch on the N125 passes through the edge of the village, where the road narrows and slows through local traffic. With light traffic the trip takes around 35 minutes; expect a little longer on summer afternoons when the A22 and N125 both get busier.

Many rentals around Luz de Tavira are on unmarked rural lanes off the N125 rather than at a village address, so share a pin location or the exact road name with your driver in advance — house numbers here can be hard to find after dark. If your plan includes Barril beach, note that the property gate at Pedras d'el Rei and the little train have limited hours, so ask to be dropped at the start of the causeway rather than expecting to reach the sand by car. The A22 is a toll motorway with electronic-only charging; on a private transfer this is handled for you, but it matters if you later rent a car. Small local shops and the Tavira supermarkets close earlier than city ones, so arrange an arrival stop if you need supplies.
