What Orebic offers at the tip of the Pelješac peninsula
Orebic sits on the southern shore of the Pelješac peninsula, directly across a narrow channel from Korčula town. Its long history of sea captains shows in the stone houses along the waterfront and the Maritime Museum near the centre. Trstenica beach, a shingle-and-sand stretch east of the harbour, is where most families head in July and August. Above the town, the Franciscan monastery gives a clear view over the channel, and serious hikers climb Sveti Ilija (961 m) behind it. The car ferry to Korčula (Dominče) runs from the harbour and fills up fast in summer. Wine drinkers use Orebic as a base for the Dingač and Postup vineyards on the steep slopes to the east.
The drive north via the Pelješac Bridge
The route runs north past Dubrovnik and along the Adriatic coastal road (D8), then crosses the Pelješac Bridge, which since 2022 lets you reach the peninsula without passing through the Neum border corridor in Bosnia. That change removed two passport checks and a common bottleneck. From the bridge you join the D414, the single road that runs the length of the peninsula through Ston, known for its long defensive walls and oyster beds, before continuing west toward Orebic. The final stretch is a two-lane road that bends around hillsides and vineyards, with sea on one side for much of the way. Expect around two and a half to three hours in total; it is not a short hop, so plan the timing around your flight.
Planning your Orebic transfer around the Korčula ferry
If Korčula town is your real destination, tell us in advance: the car ferry from Orebic harbour to Dominče is short, but summer queues can be long and the passenger boat straight into Korčula's old town is a separate service. A driver can drop you at the harbour to time a crossing. Trstenica and the town centre are reachable by normal road, but a few older lanes near the waterfront are tight, so accommodation with parking nearby helps. Stock up on cash and essentials before the peninsula, as options thin out west of Ston. For late flights, remember the last stretch is dark and winding, so a private car with a driver who knows the D414 is easier than self-driving after a long day.
