Private transfer from Dubrovnik Airport to Makarska
Door-to-door transfer from Dubrovnik Airport to Makarska with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Makarska is known for
Makarska sits on a curved bay under the grey wall of Biokovo mountain, which rises steeply right behind the town. The old core centres on Kačić Square, with the Franciscan monastery and its Malacological Museum of shells nearby. The long pebble main beach runs west past the pine-covered Sveti Petar peninsula, while quieter Nugal cove sits a short walk south. Families and swimmers fill the town from June to September, and the marina and Kalalarga café street stay busy into the night. Hikers use Makarska as a base for the Biokovo Nature Park and its glass Skywalk viewpoint above the coast. Nearby Riviera villages — Tučepi, Podgora, Brela and Baška Voda — draw day-trippers along the same shoreline.
The drive north along the Adriatic coast
The route leaves Čilipi and passes Dubrovnik before climbing onto the coastal corridor heading northwest. Since the Pelješac Bridge opened, the drive crosses it and the connecting Ston bypass, so you no longer stop at the Neum border posts in Bosnia — this is the single biggest change to the journey and it removes the old queues. Much of the way follows the D8 Adriatic road hugging the sea, with long views over the water and a series of gentle bends rather than one steep pass. Expect roughly two and a half to three hours depending on summer traffic around Dubrovnik and the bridge approaches. The final stretch drops down into Makarska's bay with Biokovo filling the windscreen ahead.
Practical notes for this transfer
Even with the Pelješac Bridge, this is a long coastal drive, so plan a rest stop — there are service areas and cafés around Ston and Ploče. Bring passports for everyone even though you no longer cross into Bosnia, as border rules can vary and IDs are simplest to have ready. In Makarska itself, the seafront and old-town lanes near Kačić Square are pedestrianised or very narrow, so ask your driver about the nearest drop-off point to your accommodation rather than assuming door access. If you are staying in Tučepi or Podgora, confirm the exact address, since these villages stretch along the same road and hotel entrances can be well apart. Late-afternoon summer arrivals meet the heaviest traffic leaving Dubrovnik.
