Dalyan sits on a river channel that links Köyceğiz Lake to the sea, and most of what draws people here is tied to that water. Small flat-bottomed boats leave from the quays along the town centre for trips to Iztuzu Beach, a long sandbar where loggerhead turtles nest in summer. Directly across the river from the restaurants are the Lycian rock tombs carved into the cliff at ancient Kaunos, floodlit at night. The Sultaniye mud baths and hot springs near the lake are a common half-day outing. The town itself is low-key and walkable, popular with couples, families and older independent travellers rather than a party crowd, busiest from May to September.

The route is short and mostly easy. You leave the airport on the D400 heading west toward Ortaca, running across flat farmland planted with citrus and pomegranate orchards, with the mountains to the north. After Ortaca the road branches off to the right toward Dalyan, and the final stretch is a narrower single carriageway that runs through fields before reaching the edge of town. The whole trip is around 25 to 30 minutes with no motorway tolls involved. As you enter Dalyan the streets tighten near the river and the market area, so the last few hundred metres are slow. A car can usually reach hotels on the main streets, though some riverside guesthouses require a short walk.

Because the airport is so close, a private transfer often beats waiting for a shuttle to fill in Dalaman town. Confirm the exact name of your hotel in advance, as several small properties sit on pedestrianised lanes near the river where drivers stop at the nearest accessible point rather than the door. If you land late, note that Dalyan's centre is compact and quiet after midnight, so arrange the pickup rather than expecting taxis to be lined up. Ask your driver about the river-boat quays if you want to head straight out; the boat cooperative sets fixed rates. In peak summer the single road in from Ortaca can slow with day-trip traffic, so allow extra time when leaving for a return flight.
