The road continues through Ballyvourney and Ballymakeera, the last Gaeltacht villages before you cross the county line into Kerry over the Derrynasaggart mountains. This upland stretch is the most scenic part, with open bog and long views, and can hold mist or slower traffic. After the descent you reach Killarney from the Cork side near the Muckross Road end. The whole run is around 87 kilometres and usually takes about 80 minutes, though summer tourist traffic and coaches can add time on the single-carriageway sections.

Many Killarney hotels sit along Muckross Road and the Kenmare Road, a short distance from the centre; give the exact hotel name, as several large properties have similar names and separate entrances. The town core around High Street and New Street has one-way systems and pedestrian zones, so a drop-off may be at a nearby set-down point rather than the door. If you're starting the Ring of Kerry the next morning, arrange an early pickup, as tour coaches fill the roads by mid-morning. The N22 has few services between Ballincollig and Killarney, so use the airport for coffee or restrooms. Weather in the Derrynasaggart mountains can differ sharply from Cork; pack layers even in summer, and confirm your return pickup allows buffer time for slow single-carriageway sections.
