The final stretch above Les Menuires to Val Thorens is steep and exposed, with switchbacks that gain altitude quickly. Expect roughly two to two and a half hours in good conditions. The motorway portion is straightforward, but the mountain section is slower, and passengers prone to travel sickness will notice the bends on the final ascent.

Val Thorens is car-restricted, so confirm your exact residence or hotel and its access point in advance; drop-offs happen at designated zones and porters or a short walk with luggage is common. On Saturdays, the changeover day, the Moûtiers-to-Val Thorens road and the Tarentaise motorway can be heavily congested, so allow extra time and expect slower going. Winter tyres or chains are essential on the final climb, and heavy snowfall can cause temporary road closures above Les Menuires. Pack warm layers in your hand luggage; even a short transfer from vehicle to accommodation is cold at 2,300 metres. If you arrive after dark, note that the last hairpins are unlit in places. Flight delays are worth communicating early, as re-timing a mountain transfer matters more than on flat routes.
