From Chambéry the route runs on the A43 motorway and the N90 express road down the Tarentaise valley past Albertville and Moûtiers, which is fast and mostly dual carriageway. The mountain part begins at Bourg-Saint-Maurice, where the road climbs the D1090/D902 in a long series of hairpins towards the Lac du Chevril reservoir. You pass the Tignes dam, whose downstream face carries the giant painted mural of Hercules. After the dam the road tunnels and curves up to Tignes le Lac before the final stretch to Val Claret. Expect roughly two and a half hours in good conditions; the lower section is quick, the upper half slow and winding. In winter the climb from Bourg-Saint-Maurice can involve snow chains and traffic on Saturday changeover days.

Tell the driver your exact residence or apartment name in Val Claret, not just "Tignes" — the resort has four separate levels and several large residence complexes, and some are only reachable through specific entrances or the underground parking. Winter arrival is easiest if you give an approximate flight time with buffer, as Saturday traffic on the Bourg-Saint-Maurice climb and chain fitting can add time. Val Claret itself is largely pedestrian, so confirm the nearest drop-off point to your building, as you may walk the last stretch with luggage over snow. Carry warm layers in your hand luggage: you leave low-altitude Chambéry and arrive above 2,000m where conditions differ sharply.
