The route runs east on the A43 motorway past Albertville, then follows the fast valley road along the Isère to Moûtiers, the gateway town for the Tarentaise resorts. Most of this stretch is dual carriageway or wide valley road, so it moves quickly. From Moûtiers the character changes: the D915 then D90 climbs roughly 18 kilometres of switchbacks up the Les Allues valley, gaining well over a kilometre in altitude with tight hairpins and forest on either side. Passengers prone to motion sickness feel this final section most. Reckon on around two hours in normal conditions. In peak winter, Saturday changeover days bring heavy traffic through Moûtiers and on the climb, so journey times can stretch considerably.

Tell your driver exactly which level of Méribel you need, as Centre, Mottaret, Village and Les Allues have separate access roads and adding the wrong one costs time on a mountain road. Many chalets and residences sit above pedestrianised or lift-only zones, so confirm the nearest drop-off point and whether you'll walk the last stretch with luggage. In winter carry ski gear and boots in soft bags where possible. Book Saturday transfers early, since this is the standard resort changeover day across the Tarentaise and demand peaks. Weather can close or slow the climb from Moûtiers after heavy snow, so allow buffer time before flights out. Moûtiers is the last place to find major supermarkets and pharmacies before the ascent.
