Arc 1950 is the newest, a car-free pedestrian village with ski-in ski-out apartments, while Arc 1800 has more of the bars and shops. Peisey-Vallandry sits lower and keeps the feel of an old Savoyard village with chalets and a church. Together they form part of Paradiski, linked to La Plagne by the Vanoise Express cable car. Winter brings families and intermediate skiers; summer draws hikers and mountain bikers using the Vanoise national park trails. The Arc 1600 funicular climbs directly from Bourg-Saint-Maurice station in about seven minutes.

The route leaves Chambéry on the A43 and A430 motorways towards Albertville, then follows the N90 up the Tarentaise valley through Moûtiers and Aime. This is the same corridor that serves Val d'Isère and Tignes, so expect heavy traffic on winter Saturdays when the whole valley changes over. After Bourg-Saint-Maurice the road leaves the valley floor and starts the climb, and here the character changes completely: a series of hairpin bends switchbacks up to the Les Arcs villages, with the drop to the valley opening behind you. For Peisey-Vallandry the turn comes earlier, off the N90 onto a quieter mountain road. Total driving time is usually a little over two hours in clear conditions, longer when snow or weekend queues build up around Moûtiers.

Tell your driver exactly which resort level you need, as Arc 1600, 1800, 1950 and 2000 are separate villages several minutes apart by road, and getting the wrong one means an awkward extra climb. Arc 1950 and the upper villages are partly pedestrian, so there are drop-off points rather than door-to-door at every building — know your residence name and the nearest car park. For Peisey-Vallandry, confirm whether you are staying in Peisey, Plan-Peisey or Vallandry, as they are distinct. Winter tyres or chains are essential on the final climb, and the switchbacks can close briefly during heavy snow. If you arrive without a car, remember Bourg-Saint-Maurice has a train station and the funicular, which can be a useful fallback for onward connections.
