What Muravera is known for
Muravera sits at the mouth of the Flumendosa river in the Sarrabus region, on Sardinia's south-east coast. It's surrounded by citrus groves, and the town celebrates the Sagra degli Agrumi (citrus festival) each spring with costumed parades and traccas. Most visitors, though, are heading for the coast: the long sandy beaches at Costa Rei, the marina and campsites at Porto Corallo, and the quieter stretches of Torre Salinas and Feraxi with their old watchtowers and lagoons popular with flamingos. Families and campers dominate in July and August, while spring and autumn bring walkers exploring the Sarrabus hills and the Sette Fratelli area. Nearby San Vito and Villaputzu round out the district. The town itself is workaday rather than a resort, with supermarkets, banks and pharmacies useful once you're based on the beaches.
The drive along the SS125
The route leaves Cagliari Elmas on the fast roads around the city, then joins the SS125 Orientale Sarda heading east and north toward Sarrabus. The first part crosses the flat lagoon and plain east of Cagliari, but the middle stretch climbs into low, rocky hills around San Priamo and the edge of the Sette Fratelli, with a series of bends and rises before the road drops back toward the Flumendosa valley and Muravera. It's a genuine main road rather than a motorway, so expect steady curves and slower sections behind local traffic in summer. The full run is roughly 65 kilometres and usually takes around 80 minutes. If your final destination is Costa Rei or Villaputzu, add extra time, as those lie beyond Muravera on smaller coastal roads.
Planning your transfer to the Muravera beaches
Confirm your exact address before travel: many stays are in beach zones like Costa Rei, San Giovanni or Torre Salinas rather than Muravera town, and these are spread across kilometres of coast with unnamed lanes, so a pin location helps the driver reach the right gate. Bring supplies from Cagliari or stock up in Muravera itself, as beach settlements have limited shops that close early off-season. In July and August the SS125 and the approaches to Costa Rei get congested in late afternoon, so an earlier arrival window is smoother. There's no rail service to Muravera and the local bus is slow, which makes a direct transfer practical for luggage, beach gear and families. If you plan day trips to Villasimius or the Sette Fratelli, note these are separate directions requiring their own arrangements.
