Private transfer from Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport to Lacanau
Door-to-door transfer from Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport to Lacanau with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Lacanau is known for
Lacanau splits into two distinct places. Lacanau-Océan sits on the Atlantic with long beach breaks that draw surfers all summer and host the Lacanau Pro competition each August. The central beach, La Grande Plage, and the surf schools along the seafront fill with families and learners from June onward. Inland, Lacanau-Ville sits beside the Lac de Lacanau, a large freshwater lake used for paddleboarding, sailing and calmer swimming — better for young children. Golfers head to the Golf de Lacanau course set among the pines. Cyclists use the flat coastal greenways linking the town to the lake and neighbouring resorts. Outside July and August the resort is quiet, with many seafront businesses closing for winter.
The drive through the Médoc pine forest
From Bordeaux-Mérignac the route runs west and skirts the city, then follows the D6 out through Saint-Médard-en-Jalles and Sainte-Hélène. Almost the entire journey crosses the flat pine forest of the Médoc — straight, well-surfaced roads with long stretches of maritime pines on both sides and few towns in between. There is no motorway on this route and no coastal cliffs; the terrain stays level the whole way. The drive is roughly 50 kilometres and typically takes under an hour. As you near the coast the road divides: one branch continues to Lacanau-Ville by the lake, another carries on to Lacanau-Océan at the beach. Summer weekends bring heavy traffic on this single corridor, especially Saturday changeover days.
Practical advice for this transfer
Tell the driver clearly whether you need Lacanau-Océan (the beach) or Lacanau-Ville (the lake) — they are several kilometres apart and easy to confuse. If you're staying in a holiday residence or campsite, give the exact complex name, as many share access roads off the D6. In the beach town itself, the streets behind La Grande Plage are narrow and often pedestrianised in summer, so the drop-off may be at the nearest accessible point rather than the door. There are no large supermarkets right on the seafront, so plan an inland stop if you need supplies on arrival. Book return trips in advance for late-August weekends around the surf event, when demand and traffic both peak.
