Private transfer from Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport to Arcachon
Door-to-door transfer from Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport to Arcachon with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Arcachon is known for
Arcachon sits on its namesake bay, an oyster-farming basin on the Atlantic coast. The town splits into named quarters: the Ville d'Hiver, with its 19th-century villas set among pine trees uphill; the Ville d'Été along the seafront and Plage d'Arcachon; and the port area with its marina and oyster stalls. Families come in summer for the sheltered beaches and the boardwalk; day-trippers head south to the Dune du Pilat, the tall sand dune at Pyla-sur-Mer with views over the Banc d'Arguin. Oyster-tasting at nearby Cap Ferret and the villages of Gujan-Mestras draws visitors year-round. The pier, Jetée Thiers, is the main landmark and the departure point for boats crossing the bay.
The drive from Mérignac to the bay
The route leaves the airport, joins the A63 southbound and then the A660, the dedicated motorway spur that runs west toward the coast. It is dual-carriageway almost the whole way, crossing flat pine forest of the Landes rather than any hills or coast until the final stretch. The A660 ends near La Teste-de-Buch, where traffic funnels onto local roads for the last few kilometres into central Arcachon. Expect roughly 50 minutes in normal conditions. Summer weekends and July–August afternoons are the exception: the single corridor into the basin backs up badly, particularly heading toward the Dune du Pilat and Pyla. If your destination is Pyla-sur-Mer rather than Arcachon town, the approach narrows and climbs slightly through wooded residential lanes.
Practical tips for this transfer
Give your driver the exact quarter, not just "Arcachon": the seafront near Jetée Thiers, the Ville d'Hiver up the hill, or Pyla-sur-Mer to the south are on quite different roads once off the A660. In high summer, an early-morning or late-evening transfer avoids the worst of the coastal traffic. Many seafront addresses and the port area have limited stopping space, so a set-down point on Boulevard de la Plage or near the casino is often more practical than a narrow side street. If you plan to take the boat to Cap Ferret, the pier is a short walk from the beachfront drop-off. For oyster villages like Gujan-Mestras or Le Teich, mention it in advance so the driver exits the A660 accordingly.
