Many international residents and second-home owners live in the hillside villa developments around the town, so Yalikavak stays busier than most peninsula villages in spring and autumn, when hiking sections of the Carian Trail nearby are at their best.

Bodrum Milas Airport sits inland to the northeast, so the drive to Yalikavak crosses the whole peninsula rather than following the coast. The first stretch is fast dual carriageway toward Bodrum, then the route turns off before the town centre and climbs over the interior hills toward Ortakent and Gurece. The final section is a winding two-lane road that drops down into Yalikavak bay, with tight bends and gradients as you approach the marina and old town. Expect roughly 65 kilometres and around an hour to seventy minutes in normal conditions. In July and August the descent into town and the streets near Palmarina can slow considerably in the late afternoon and evening, so allow extra time if you have a boat departure or dinner reservation to keep.

Give your driver the specific address or villa complex, not just "Yalikavak". The hillside developments around Gecebahce, Dagbelen and Yaliçiftlik share access roads, and villa gates are often unmarked and reached by steep private lanes a standard taxi may hesitate to attempt. If your accommodation is in the old town or on the streets immediately behind Palmarina, cars cannot always reach the door in high season; agree a drop-off point near the marina car park and be ready for a short walk with luggage. Bring a phone with data or your host's number, as some villa entrances need a call to open. For late arrivals, note that shops and pharmacies in town close earlier out of season, so buy essentials before leaving the airport area if you land after dark in winter.
