Private transfer from Biarritz Pays Basque Airport to Hendaye
Door-to-door transfer from Biarritz Pays Basque Airport to Hendaye with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Hendaye is known for
Hendaye sits at the mouth of the Bidasoa, the last French town before Spain. Its main draw is Hendaye-Plage, the longest sand beach on the French Basque coast, backed by a promenade and the Deux Jumeaux rocks offshore. Families fill it in July and August, while surfers and school groups use its gentle break out of season. The Sokoburu marina and thalassotherapy centre sit at the beach's eastern end. Uphill, the Château d'Abbadia, a Viollet-le-Duc observatory-castle, overlooks the cliffs. The old town and station lie closer to the river, where a small ferry crosses the Txingudi bay to Hondarribia in Spain. It's quieter and more residential than Saint-Jean-de-Luz, with a steady mix of holidaymakers and cross-border commuters.
The drive south on the A63
From Biarritz Pays Basque Airport the route joins the A63 motorway heading south and stays on it for most of the journey, passing Bidart, Guéthary and Saint-Jean-de-Luz before the Urrugne–Hendaye exits. It's roughly 30 kilometres and normally around 30 minutes, though the stretch near the Spanish border can slow in summer and during cross-border commuter peaks. The terrain is gently rolling and green rather than mountainous, with the sea appearing on and off to your right. The final approach leaves the motorway and drops down local roads toward either the beach and marina district or the older town by the river and station — two distinct parts of Hendaye that are several minutes apart by car.
Practical notes for this transfer
Tell your driver which Hendaye you need: Hendaye-Plage and Sokoburu marina, or the town centre near the SNCF/Euskotren station by the river. They are not walkable from each other with luggage. If you're continuing into Spain, Hendaye station connects to San Sebastián via the Euskotren "Topo" line, and the seasonal ferry crosses to Hondarribia — useful to know before booking a drop-off point. In peak summer, beach-area streets around the promenade get congested and some are one-way, so a set meeting point works better than a vague address. Bring a light layer even in summer; the ocean-facing beach is breezier than the sheltered bay. For golf, the nearest courses are at Chantaco and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a short drive back up the A63.
