Private transfer from Biarritz Pays Basque Airport to Biarritz
Door-to-door transfer from Biarritz Pays Basque Airport to Biarritz with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Biarritz is known for
Biarritz is a surf and seaside town on the Basque coast, built around the Grande Plage and the smaller Plage du Port Vieux. The Rocher de la Vierge, reached by a footbridge over the rocks, and the lighthouse at Pointe Saint-Martin are the two landmarks most visitors walk to. Surfers head for the Côte des Basques, especially in autumn when the swell picks up, while families prefer the calmer Port Vieux cove. The old fishing harbour, the covered market (Les Halles), and the streets around Place Georges Clemenceau are where people eat and shop. The former Hôtel du Palais, once Napoleon III's residence, still fronts the Grande Plage. Summer brings the heaviest crowds; spring and September are quieter and mild.
The drive from the airport into town
The airport sits just south of the town centre, near the boundary with Anglet and Bidart, so this is one of the shortest transfers on the coast. The route runs along the Avenue du Maréchal Juin and through Biarritz's residential southern edge before reaching the seafront, usually in around ten to twelve minutes. There is no motorway involved for the direct approach; it is town roads the whole way. The last stretch into the centre narrows around Place Clemenceau and the streets behind the Grande Plage, which are tight and often one-way. In July and August traffic near the beachfront and the casino slows noticeably, and finding the exact hotel entrance can take longer than the drive itself.
Practical tips for this short transfer
Because the distance is so small, the main variable is access, not driving time. Many central hotels near the Grande Plage and the casino have no parking and sit on pedestrianised or restricted streets, so tell the driver the exact address and the nearest cross street; a set-down point a short walk away is sometimes unavoidable. If you're staying in a villa toward the Côte des Basques or Milady, note that those roads climb and twist above the shore. Trains stop at Biarritz-La Négresse station, which is well south of the seafront, so a car straight from the arrivals hall saves a second leg. During peak surf weekends and summer, allow extra time on departure, as the one-way loops around the town centre can add several minutes.
