Where Camping Cala Gogo sits on the Costa Brava
Camping Cala Gogo is a large seaside site in Calonge, on the stretch of coast between Sant Antoni de Calonge and Platja d'Aro. It has direct access to a small cove and sits close to Torre Valentina and the pine-backed beaches south of Platja d'Aro. Most guests are families and long-stay campers who come between May and September for the pool complex, the beach path and easy trips to the fishing port of Palamós and the shops and nightlife of Platja d'Aro. The camping is spread over terraces down towards the water, so plots vary in how far they are from the entrance and reception. The old town of Calonge, with its castle, sits a few kilometres inland from the coastal strip.
The drive north along the AP-7 and C-31
The route runs almost entirely on motorway. From El Prat you skirt Barcelona on the ring roads or the C-32, then join the AP-7 heading north past Girona's turn-offs. You leave the motorway around Vidreres or Caldes and take the C-35 and C-31 towards Palamós and the coast. The final stretch through Sant Antoni de Calonge is slower, with roundabouts, seafront traffic in summer and a short descent towards the camping entrances off the coast road. Expect roughly an hour and three-quarters in normal conditions. The landscape shifts from flat delta plain around the airport to wooded inland hills, then opens onto the coast near Palamós. Summer weekends and Friday afternoons add congestion on the last section approaching Platja d'Aro.
Practical tips for arriving at Cala Gogo
Tell your driver which part of the site you are staying in, as reception and the accommodation terraces are down towards the sea and access is one-way in places; a mobile home near the beach is not the same drop-off as a pitch near the entrance. Check the camping's seasonal opening dates before booking, as it closes in winter and does not run year-round. If you land late, note that shops and reception have limited evening hours, so pick up any food or drink you need before arriving. For beach days beyond the cove, Platja d'Aro and Palamós are a short taxi or bus ride, and parking there is difficult in August. Bring cash for the local bus if you plan to explore without a car.
