Private transfer from Antwerp International Airport to Ghent
Door-to-door transfer from Antwerp International Airport to Ghent with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Ghent offers when you arrive
Ghent is a working university city with a medieval core kept largely car-free. Most visitors head for the strip between Korenmarkt and the Gravensteen castle, along the Graslei and Korenlei quays on the River Leie, where the guild houses line the water. Saint Bavo's Cathedral holds the Van Eyck 'Adoration of the Mystic Lamb', a reason many day-trippers come. Students fill the bars around the Vrijdagmarkt and Overpoort, so nightlife runs late during term. Families use the Design Museum and the Sunday flower market. Ghent stays busier and less touristy than Bruges year-round, with the Gentse Feesten filling the streets for ten days each July.
The drive from Antwerp Airport to Ghent
The route leaves the airport at Deurne and joins the Antwerp Ring, then follows the E17 motorway southwest through Sint-Niklaas and Lokeren. It is flat, built-up Flanders the whole way — no hills, no coast — mostly three-lane motorway with predictable traffic apart from the Antwerp Ring itself, which clogs at rush hour and around any Kennedy Tunnel or Ring works. Count on roughly an hour for the 60-odd kilometres. The final stretch leaves the motorway at the R4 and threads into the city, where the medieval centre is a low-emission zone with narrow one-way lanes and limited vehicle access, so your drop-off is usually at the edge of the pedestrian core rather than the doorstep.
Practical tips for this transfer
Ghent's centre sits inside a Low Emission Zone (LEZ), and the historic streets around Korenmarkt are closed to general traffic, so give your driver a precise drop point — a hotel on Sint-Michielshelling, Kouter or the Vrijdagmarkt edge works better than a Graslei address you can't reach by car. Bring a small case: the last few hundred metres over cobbles are on foot. Antwerp International is a small terminal, so waiting outside arrivals is straightforward. If you land during Friday evening or the July Gentse Feesten, allow extra time for road closures and diversions. For onward trips, Ghent's Sint-Pieters station has fast direct trains to Brussels and Bruges if you only need the transfer one way.
