What Aguadulce offers by the marina and beaches
Aguadulce sits in the municipality of Roquetas de Mar, just west of Almería city. Its Puerto Deportivo is one of the larger marinas on this coast, ringed with sailing schools, seafood restaurants and berths for pleasure craft. The long Playa de Aguadulce and the quieter Playa de las Salinas draw Spanish families through July and August, plus northern European residents who winter here for the mild climate. The seafront promenade runs for a good stretch and fills up at dusk. Aguadulce works as a base for reaching Roquetas de Mar proper, with its Castillo de Santa Ana and old lighthouse, and it stays busier out of season than most resorts thanks to a large year-round population rather than only holiday lets.
The drive from the airport around Almería city
The airport lies east of Almería, so the route runs the opposite way from the terminal, skirting the city on the A-7 motorway. You pass the port and the edge of the city before the road climbs into the hills that separate Almería from the western coast. This section cuts through tunnels and along elevated stretches with the sea below, then drops down toward the Aguadulce exit. It is motorway almost the entire way, so the ride is smooth and predictable, usually around half an hour depending on how traffic moves through the city bypass. The final approach into Aguadulce leaves the A-7 and runs down through residential streets toward the seafront and marina, where the last few minutes slow noticeably.
Practical tips for arriving in Aguadulce
Give your driver the specific address, not just "Aguadulce": the town spreads between the marina, Aguadulce Sur and the blocks behind the promenade, and apartment complexes here often have several entrances on different streets. If you are staying near the Puerto Deportivo, note that parking around the marina is tight in summer, so door drop-off saves a long walk with luggage. Traffic on the A-7 city bypass can back up during weekday rush hours and on summer weekends when beach traffic peaks, so allow a small margin for a flight to catch on the way back. Supermarkets and pharmacies are easy to find along the main avenues, but many marina restaurants keep late Spanish hours, so plan an early arrival meal accordingly.
