Orosei sits at the mouth of the Cedrino river, a short drive inland from a run of beaches that draws families through July and August. The old town centres on the Piazza del Popolo, the church of San Giacomo Maggiore and the whitewashed lanes of the Cittadella. Down at the coast you have Marina di Orosei, Cala Liberotto, Cala Ginepro and Sos Alinos, plus the protected Bidderosa reserve with its numbered coves. Galtellì and its medieval quarter lie just up the road, and Cala Gonone with its Gulf of Orosei boat trips is around 40 minutes south via Dorgali. Most visitors are beach-goers and hikers rather than nightlife crowds; the town stays quiet and residential outside summer.

This is a full cross-island run: Alghero-Fertilia is on the northwest coast, Orosei on the east. The route heads toward Sassari and picks up the SS131 Carlo Felice trunk road south, before branching onto the SS131 dcn corridor toward Nuoro and then the SS129 down to the coast at Orosei. Most of the journey is dual-carriageway or well-graded main road through the interior, with the landscape shifting from farmland to the hills around Nuoro. Expect around an hour and three-quarters to two hours. The final stretch on the SS129 descends gently toward the Cedrino plain; it is not a tight mountain road, but the last approaches to individual beach resorts can narrow.

Because Orosei's accommodation is spread between the town and several separate beach areas — Cala Liberotto, Sos Alinos, Cala Ginepro, Marina di Orosei — give the exact resort or address, not just "Orosei", so the driver takes the correct turn-off from the SS125 coastal road. If you plan to visit the Bidderosa reserve, note that daily car entry is capped and needs booking in high summer, so a transfer that drops you and returns can save the parking lottery. The interior route has few service stops after Nuoro, so handle food, fuel breaks and bathrooms earlier. Arriving late, the town's narrow Cittadella lanes are awkward for larger vehicles — a set-down at the edge is often more practical than a door drop.
