Private transfer from Alghero-Fertilia Airport to Cala Bitta

Cala Bitta is a small resort bay on the Gulf of Arzachena, a couple of kilometres from Baja Sardinia and within reach of Cannigione and Porto Cervo. It has its own marina, Marina di Cala Bitta, popular with boat owners heading out to the La Maddalena archipelago. The surrounding hillside is dotted with holiday villas and apartment complexes rather than a traditional village centre. Families come here in July and August for the sheltered swimming and easy access to Baja Sardinia's beaches like Cala Battistoni and Cala dei Ginepri. Golfers use the Pevero Golf Club near Porto Cervo, a short drive away. It is quieter than Costa Smeralda proper, with most visitors self-catering or staying in the resort hotels above the bay.

This is a long cross-island transfer: Alghero-Fertilia Airport sits on the northwest coast, while Cala Bitta is in the northeast, so you cross most of the width of Sardinia. The route heads inland via Sassari and then follows the SS597 and SS729 corridor towards Olbia before turning north to Arzachena. Most of the way is on dual carriageway or well-maintained trunk road through rolling inland countryside, not coastline, so there is little to see beyond farmland, cork oaks and low hills for much of the journey. The scenery improves near Arzachena as you approach the Gulf. The final stretch through Baja Sardinia narrows and climbs and dips past resort entrances, so the last few minutes are slower than the open road that precedes them.

Because the journey is long and largely inland, book a private transfer rather than relying on the sparse public transport, which would require changes in Sassari or Olbia and a lot of waiting. If your real destination is the coast, Olbia-Costa Smeralda Airport is far closer to Cala Bitta than Alghero, so check whether your flight could route through Olbia instead. Confirm the exact villa or hotel name and the resort entrance in advance, as Baja Sardinia and Cala Bitta have several unmarked complex entrances that are hard to find after dark. In peak August the SS729 and the approach to Arzachena get busy, so allow extra time. Bring water and anything children need, since there are limited stops on the inland stretch once you leave the Sassari area.
